Stroke and distance; ball lost or out of bounds; provisional ball
Rule 18 applies when your ball is lost or out of bounds. You add one penalty stroke and play again from the spot of your previous stroke: stroke and distance. To avoid walking back, you may first play a provisional ball, under the conditions of Rule 18.3.
