Playing the course as you find it
One of the fundamental principles of golf: you play the course as you find it. This mainly means:
- Play your ball from where it comes to rest (Rule 9.1).
- Don't improve conditions affecting your stroke (Rule 8.1). A few actions are allowed, though.
