Penalty area (strafgebied)
An area of the course designated by the Committee. This often includes bodies of water, but can also be other areas, such as desert, forest or rocks. Penalty areas are marked with yellow or red lines or stakes. When a player's ball lies in a penalty area, specific relief options with a penalty stroke are available, as described in Rule 17.
