Loose impediment

Illustration for Loose impediment

Any natural object that is not fixed, not growing, not solidly embedded and not stuck to the ball, such as leaves, twigs, stones, loose turf, dead insects, worm casts, bird droppings, sand and loose soil. However, sand and loose soil are not loose impediments when they are on the putting green. Snow and natural ice, other than frost, are either loose impediments or temporary water, at the player's choice. Dew and frost are not loose impediments.
